Abraham was asked by God to walk a new pathway – to leave his comfort zone – and set out for a new land that God was going to give him. Each of us has been called to walk new pathways -maybe it involved moving to a new city or across town; or starting at a new school or job. Maybe it is a call to deepen our faith. Maybe it’s the invitation to enter into this journey of Lent. No matter what the new pathway, change always involves a call to transformation – not only physically, but emotionally and spiritually.
We are all called to leave the land of “easy answers” and to enter the land of “eternal questions”. Each of us needs to leave the land of self-will and embrace the land of surrender; to leave the land of hoarding, and embrace the land of simplicity. But most of all, each of us is called to leave the land of fear and to walk into the land of trust.
The transfiguration is more about us than it is about Jesus. No longer can we deny who
God wants us to be. Lord, help me to believe, as Abraham did, that it is you calling me to walk into these new lands.
